[Sportschosun Reporter Lee Ji-hyun] Actor Kim Moo-yeol, who returned to You Quiz on the Block for the second time following the success of Netflix's series "Cheamgyoyuk," will receive a tearful video message from his wife, Yoon Seung-ah.
At the end of the tvN variety show You Quiz on the Block, which aired on the 24th, a preview video for Kim Moo-yeol's appearance as next week's guest was released. Kim Moo-yeol, who has recently been receiving a lot of love for Netflix's series "Cheamgyoyuk," will talk about how his daily life has changed after the show's success, as well as his story with his wife Yoon Seung-ah, who stood by him through his years of obscurity.
In the preview, when Yoo Jae-suk asked, "How good does that feel?" Kim Moo-yeol made people laugh by saying, "For the first time in 10 years, my neighbors told me I looked cool."
He is also expected to share various episodes, including the behind-the-scenes story of receiving a direct shout-out from wrestler John Cena, his post-filming stories from "Cheamgyoyuk," and his friendship with actor Heo Nam-joon.
The preview also highlighted Kim Moo-yeol's difficult years as an unknown actor. The production team aired a caption that read, "A difficult period of obscurity when he earned only 200,000 won in a year," and Kim Moo-yeol looked back on that time, saying, "If there was something I could cling to, I held on to it no matter what," recalling the desperate days when he was preparing for roles.
What drew the most attention was Yoon Seung-ah's video message. Appearing on screen, she began by saying, "Oppa, we've spent such a long time together..." but was unable to hold back her emotions, moving viewers to tears.
Meanwhile, this will be Kim Moo-yeol's second appearance on the show. During a previous appearance for the film The Roundup: Punishment, he also spoke candidly about the family's difficult financial situation.
He recalled, "My mother was scammed in connection with the sale of commercial property. With several things happening at once, our family finances worsened significantly." He added, "People even came to the house we were living in and put up a red notice. We were so struggling that my mother had to borrow money from neighbors in the area because we didn't even have bus fare."
He continued, "My father initially opposed my acting, but later, after I started appearing in dramas, I heard that he bragged about me to people around him. That was when we were living in a hillside shantytown." He added, "I worked so many jobs that I can't even remember them all, including delivery part-time work, handing out flyers, newspaper delivery, manual labor, and building security."
Amid those financial hardships, Kim Moo-yeol was exempted from military service in 2010 on the grounds of "difficulty maintaining a livelihood." However, after misunderstandings and controversy over his military status continued, he chose to enlist voluntarily in 2012 and completed his active-duty service.
As the preview hints at the honest story of two people who endured years of obscurity and hardship together, anticipation for the full broadcast is rising. Kim Moo-yeol's episode of You Quiz on the Block will air on July 1 at 8:45 p.m.
