[Sportschosun Kim Joon-seok] Singer Uhm Yoon-hee opened up about marrying a husband 23 years her senior and about giving birth to a son without even telling her parents.
The MBN program Special Report World, which aired on the 25th, showed Uhm Yoon-hee's daily life as she began living under one roof with her parents, who had emigrated to the United States, for the first time in 40 years, and with her only son for the first time in 20 years.
That day, Uhm Yoon-hee enjoyed a long-awaited family moment over breakfast with her parents and son.
She smiled brightly and said, "It's been 40 years since I lived with my parents and 20 years since I lived with my son. It's so nice to all be together."
Uhm Yoon-hee explained why she had lived apart from her parents in the past, saying, "My parents were cheated out of their money and emigrated to the United States."
But she stayed in South Korea because she could not give up her dream of singing. She later began her career as a singer by performing at nightclubs.
Along the way, Uhm Yoon-hee met a composer who was 23 years older than her and made her debut as a singer. She surprised viewers by revealing, "My husband was only one year younger than my father."
The large age gap made it difficult for her to tell her family about the marriage.
Uhm Yoon-hee said, "So I gave birth to my son in secret. It was very sad. I had the baby without even being able to tell my parents."
She also recalled what happened when her parents later returned to South Korea. Uhm Yoon-hee said, "I went out holding the baby, and my mother asked, 'What baby are you holding?' So I said, 'He's my son.' My mother was really shocked."
