[Sportschosun Reporter Jo Yoon-sun] Actress Baek Jin-hee opened up about a harrowing experience from her first solo trip, when food poisoning sent her to the emergency room.
On the 27th, the YouTube channel "Jinny Is Back" released a video titled "I Can't Do a House Tour Twice... Baek Jin-hee's Honest Home Reveal, Exhausted After Starting in Earnest."
While introducing her kitchen that day, Baek shared the story behind an elephant table mat. She said, "There's a sad story behind it. I think it was two years ago, after I turned 30, I challenged myself to my first solo trip."
Baek, who said she traveled alone to Bangkok, Thailand, recalled, "I'm not very good at eating alone, but I made up my mind and went to a seafood restaurant, where I ate one oyster. I only had one bite, but by lunch on the second day, something felt off with my body."
She continued, "It was 34 degrees, but even wearing all my fleece workout clothes, I was freezing. I thought maybe the air conditioning was too strong and I had caught a chill, but in the end I got food poisoning and sat down crying in the hotel lobby. I was in so much pain. I had never been that sick in my life."
Baek said, "I was throwing up from both ends, so I went out to buy medicine, but it didn't work like Korean medicine. I didn't have travel insurance, so an ambulance was too expensive. In the end, I called a ride through Grab, went to the emergency room, got an IV, and picked up some medicine."
She said she still keeps the medicine bag from that time, adding, "I spent 800,000 won in one night. With taxi fares included, I spent nearly 1 million won." She regretted it, saying, "You really need to get travel insurance."
She added, "I bought that table mat after walking around while holding my aching body together," and said she keeps it there as a reminder not to forget the pain from that day.
