Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel Make a Huge Donation, Erasing Medical Debt for 261,000 U.S. Residents

[Sportschosun Reporter Lee Ji-hyun] Supermodel Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., have made a major donation that will wipe out $550 million, or about 750 billion won, in medical debt for California residents.

According to U.S. media reports, Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel recently donated several million dollars to the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. Through the donation, more than 261,000 California residents will have a total of $550 million in unpaid medical debt erased. The exact amount of the donation was not disclosed.

The couple announced the project themselves in a video posted on their official social media accounts. Evan Spiegel said, "I am very happy that, together with Undue Medical Debt, we are eliminating more than $550 million in medical debt for over 260,000 California residents."

Miranda Kerr said, "When someone you love is sick, the most important things are treatment and recovery." She added, "We decided to make this donation in the hope that families can focus on caring for their loved ones rather than on financial burdens."

Those whose medical debt is being forgiven will begin receiving notices by mail in mid-July. Undue Medical Debt buys medical debt held by hospitals and debt collection agencies at a fraction of its face value, then cancels it in full. According to the organization, every $10 in donations can eliminate about $1,000 in medical debt.

Evan Spiegel said, "Unexpected medical expenses can place a heavy burden on a family for a long time." He added, "I hope this support brings at least a little peace of mind to many families."

This is not the couple's first act of philanthropy. In 2022, they paid off about $10 million in student loans for graduates of Otis College of Art and Design in the United States, and in 2025 they donated several million dollars to help with recovery from the Los Angeles wildfires, continuing their steady charitable work.

Meanwhile, Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel, who married in 2017, have three sons together. Miranda Kerr is also raising four sons in total, including her eldest son from her previous marriage to Orlando Bloom.
