The "Mobile Easy Search Service for Quasi-Drugs," introduced as part of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's "Food and Drug Regulatory Innovation 2.0" digital safety management initiative, allows consumers to instantly check key information on quasi-drugs commonly used in daily life, such as masks, sanitary pads, mouthwash and hair-loss treatments, using a smartphone. It is designed to help older adults who have difficulty reading product information because of small print, as well as consumers with visual or hearing impairments, use quasi-drugs safely and without misuse.
In response, Dong-A Pharmaceutical recently applied the "Mobile Easy Search Service for Quasi-Drugs" to its major products, allowing users to scan a smartphone barcode and check key safety information, thereby improving accessibility for information-vulnerable groups.
Users can access the "Drug Safety Korea" website on a smartphone and tap the "barcode search" button to scan a product barcode. The service is even more convenient when a dedicated app is installed, and it provides the product name, manufacturer or importer, efficacy and effects, dosage and administration, and precautions in text, voice and sign language videos.
Dong-A Pharmaceutical has introduced the service first to 49 major quasi-drug items that people encounter most often in daily life, including the fatigue recovery drink Bacchus, the feminine care product Tempo and the mouthwash Garglin.
A Dong-A Pharmaceutical official said, "We will continue expanding the products covered by the service and create an environment where all consumers can use our products with confidence."
