[Sportschosun reporter Jang Jong-ho] A grandfather who suffered burns over his entire body after a drum explosion moved people after he ran into the flames to put out a fire and protect his grandchildren.

According to U.S. media outlets, including the New York Post, Carl Moultrie, who lives in the Texoma area of Texas, was recently involved in an unexpected explosion while cutting up an old drum he had bought at auction. The blast was caused by oil left inside the drum.

CCTV footage released publicly showed the drum suddenly turning into a huge fireball and exploding.

Immediately after the explosion, black smoke and flames spread rapidly around the area, and he emerged from the fire with his body engulfed in flames.

With one leg still on fire, he ran out, shook off the flames, then rushed back into the house, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and put out the fire that had spread to the entrance.

It was reported that two young grandchildren and a pet dog were also near the scene at the time of the accident.

He suffered severe burns over about 30% of his body and was later rushed to a specialized burn treatment center for expert care.

Moultrie's daughter said, "The first thing my father asked when we met again at the hospital was, 'Are my grandchildren okay?'" She added, "He cared more about the children's safety than his own condition." Moultrie's sister also said, "My brother likes to call himself Superman," and added, "He has always been the kind of person who helps others, and that day he acted instinctively to protect his family and home."

The family is currently running a fundraising campaign to help cover medical expenses, and it is said that a significant amount has already been raised.
