"Welcome to Soogeun School" Lee Soo-geun says, "There are only a few people who can handle the principal role. I’m the only one who can do it"

[Sportschosun reporter Ahn So-yoon] Comedian Lee Soo-geun shared his thoughts on playing the principal in "Welcome to Soogeun School."

At the online production presentation for KBS2's new variety show "Welcome to Soogeun School" on the 24th, Lee said, "Thanks to my short height, I can easily match eye level with children and older adults."

"Welcome to Soogeun School" is a two-month journey in which children and seniors, with an age gap of as much as 70 years, gather in one classroom, take classes together, and build intergenerational empathy. Twelve students from across Uiseong County are drawing attention as viewers wonder whether they can overcome the generation gap and become "true friends."

Lee Soo-geun, who takes on the role of principal in "Welcome to Soogeun School," said, "There are only a few people in Korea who can handle the principal role, and I’m one of them." He added, "Because my short height makes it easy to meet children and seniors at eye level, they approached me without any discomfort."

Producer Lee Won-sik explained how the casting came together, saying, "The reason we first approached Lee Soo-geun as the principal was that he seemed like a perfect fit for the role. He takes good care of children and has the ability to connect across generations, so we presented him with the proposal. I was also curious about how he would take on the principal role after playing student roles so often, but he said, 'I’m old enough to be a principal now, so why wouldn’t I be able to do it?' He kept the production set steady. We had heard that Miju once dreamed of becoming a kindergarten teacher, and her warm personality seemed like it would help her connect well with children and seniors. As for Im Woo-il, he can seem intimidating when he is quiet, but he has a surprising charm when he smiles."

Meanwhile, KBS2's "Welcome to Soogeun School" will premiere at 10 p.m. on the 25th.
