[Sportschosun Reporter Jo Ji-young] Actor Choi Min-sik said he had missed "works with a literary feel."
On the morning of the 24th, a production press conference for the Netflix series The Boy at the End of the Line, written by Jang Myeong-woo and directed by Kim Gyu-tae, was held at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Choi Min-sik, who plays Heo Moon-oh, a prickly Korean literature professor trapped in feelings of inferiority and defeat, attended the event along with Choi Hyun-wook, who plays the mysterious student Lee Kang, who sits in the last row of the classroom and shakes up Heo Moon-oh, as well as director Kim Gyu-tae.
Choi Min-sik explained why he chose the project, saying, "At first, I only heard a rough outline of the story, and it sounded like something I had heard many times before. As it turned out, it was based on an original work. I thought, 'This is it!' and asked for the script. I had missed a work with a literary feel. These days, there are many highly popular and entertaining works, but this one felt like something that would make people think. I also flinched a little, wondering if Heo Moon-oh in the story might be about me. Viewers can also project their own situations onto it, and although the theme of the relationship between teacher and student feels a bit removed from current trends, that actually made it feel fresh."
The Boy at the End of the Line is a suspense drama about a failed writer and Korean literature professor who discovers the genius of a boy in the back row of his classroom and becomes obsessed with his writing. Choi Min-sik, Choi Hyun-wook, Heo Joon-ho, Kim Yoon-jin, and Jin-kyung star in the series. It was written by Jang Myeong-woo and directed by Kim Gyu-tae, who helmed It's Okay, That's Love and Our Blues. The series will be released on Netflix on the 26th.
