[Sportschosun Jo Ji-young] Disney and Pixar's animated film "Toy Story 5" (directed by Andrew Stanton and Makenna Harris) topped the box office in its opening weekend.
According to the Korean Film Council Integrated Computer Network, "Toy Story 5" drew 713,065 moviegoers from June 19 to 21, bringing its cumulative audience to 872,547 and holding on to No. 1 at the overall box office.
That is a stronger opening weekend total than "Project Hail Mary," this year's top-grossing imported film, which drew 561,363 viewers over its first three days. Attention is now turning to what records the new film may set next. It also posted a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 98% rating on the CGV Golden Egg Index, winning over both critics and audiences worldwide and signaling a strong run at the June box office amid glowing reviews.
Moviegoers praised the film's emotional resonance, especially Jessie’s storyline, which has grown alongside the series. They also expressed deep appreciation for its lingering impact. The film has drawn enthusiastic support from viewers of all ages for its message about values that remain unchanged even as times change.
"Toy Story 5" follows Jessie, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the other toys as they reunite for an unpredictable journey after the arrival of Lilypad, a smart tablet that becomes Bonnie's new friend and creates an unprecedented crisis. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and Greta Lee provide the voices, while Andrew Stanton, who helped plan the previous installment, and Makenna Harris, who produced "Elemental," co-directed the film.
