[Sportschosun Reporter An So-yoon] Actor Jin Seon-kyu expressed pride in the film "Extreme Job," which drew 16.26 million viewers.
Jin met with Sportschosun at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, on the 22nd and said, "'Extreme Job' fell to No. 3 at the box office after being overtaken by 'The King and the Clown,' which was released this year, but I’m still happy because it remains No. 1 in the comedy genre."
Released on the 19th, the Netflix film "Husbands" is a comedy-action movie about an unpredictable rescue mission by a divorced husband and a current husband who team up by chance to save a wife kidnapped by a criminal gang. Directed by Park Gyu-tae, who helmed "6/45," the film stars Jin as Chungsik, the ace of the narcotics unit and City’s ex-husband.
Jin reunited with Gong Myung seven years after "Extreme Job" in 2019. He said, "We met often over those seven years, and that actually made us closer and deepened our relationship. Myung is one of the actors I’m closest to, so I felt like everything would fall into place in terms of acting for this project as well."
In addition to Gong Myung, he worked with Lee Ha-nee in the Netflix series "Aema" and with Ryu Seung-ryong in the film "Amazon Bullseye." He added, "Except for Lee Dong-hwi, I’ve worked with everyone at least once. I’d like to do a genre piece with Dong-hwi someday."
When asked whether he felt any pressure because of the huge success of "Extreme Job" with its 16.26 million admissions, Jin replied, "Since 'Husbands' is a comedy, comparisons are unavoidable. But I didn’t feel pressured. Rather than thinking I had to make something better than 'Extreme Job,' I wanted to portray the character that fit this story well."
The film "The King and the Clown," released in February this year, surpassed 16.9 million admissions and overtook "Extreme Job" to become the second-highest-grossing Korean film of all time. Jin said candidly, "Actually, when the 'Extreme Job' team gets together, we don’t really talk about that topic much. Still, isn’t it No. 1 among comedies? There is a bit of a sting in the heart about dropping from No. 2 to No. 3, but I’m glad it’s still in the top three. If it falls to No. 4, I think I’ll start to feel a bit disappointed."
