[Sportschosun reporter Jo Ji-young] The suspense thriller film "Pupil" (directed by Yeom Ji-ho, produced by Dream Capture) has given an early boost to its box office prospects by ranking first in advance ticket sales among films opening in the same period.
According to the Korean Film Council Integrated Computer Network, as of 11:10 a.m. on the 22nd, "Pupil" recorded a 16% reservation rate and 32,166 advance tickets sold, placing second overall in advance ticket sales and showing signs of a strong opening. The result not only put it first among Korean films, ahead of the steadily performing "The Swarm" and "Wild Things," but also surpassed "Supergirl," which opens on the same day, raising expectations for its box office run.
In particular, the wave of praise from the media and critics following the press screening has heightened audience anticipation. The film is already drawing an enthusiastic response for maximizing the appeal of the suspense-thriller genre, and Shin Min-a is being singled out as a key reason for its heightened immersion, further fueling curiosity among moviegoers.
"Pupil" tells the story of a protagonist who is gradually losing her sight to a genetic disease and uncovers the mystery surrounding her twin sister's death, only to come face to face with the truth. The film stars Shin Min-a, Kim Nam-hee, Lee Seung-ryong, and Kim Young-ah, and is directed by Yeom Ji-ho of "The Neighbor." It opens on the 24th.
