[Sportschosun Lee Ji-hyun] Actress Shin Hyun-bin shared her candid thoughts about the profession of acting. She said it is a job that brings great joy, but also requires enduring great pain, and that she can keep going because she still loves acting.
Appearing on the YouTube channel 'PDC by PDC,' released on the 25th, Shin Hyun-bin spoke honestly about life as an actor and her philosophy on acting.
That day, Shin said she tries not to let the performance or reception of her work shake her too much. She explained, "Of course, it's nice when the ratings or reviews are good, and it's upsetting when they are not. But I think those things should not completely shake me," adding that she tries to separate Shin Hyun-bin the actress from Shin Hyun-bin the individual.
She then shared the most memorable story from the conversation. Shin said, "A friend once told me, 'If you want to be happy, you have to retire. Do you really expect to be happy doing this job?'" She added, "When I heard that, I thought it was absolutely true."
She said calmly, "Being an actor brings joys you would never experience in ordinary life, but it also comes with tremendous suffering. In the end, it seems like a profession where you choose to take on those difficult moments yourself."
Even so, she said she has no intention of giving up acting. Shin said, "In the end, I think I really love this work." She added, "Meeting another person's story, living as that character, and going through the process of creating one work together with the actors and staff on set is something I truly love."
She also said, "I once talked with the staff on set and said, 'We do this because we like it.'" She added, "I am grateful simply to have found something I enjoy and to be in a situation where I can keep doing it. That is why I am still acting today."
When asked whether she had ever wanted to quit acting, Shin replied, "There was a time when things were really hard, but even then, I looked at myself still going to the set and realized, 'I don't actually want to quit.'" She then smiled and said, "I think I really love being on set," once again showing her affection for the profession.
Meanwhile, Shin Hyun-bin made her debut in the 2010 film 'Banga? Banga!' as Jangmi, a worker from Vietnam, and this year marks her 16th year as an actress.
