[Sportschosun reporter Jang Jong-ho] A 30-year-old woman who drank soda like water for 18 months was found to have 15 teeth affected by cavities at the same time, shocking many.
According to Chinese media outlets, including Shenzhen News, a 30-year-old office worker identified as A, who lives in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, was recently diagnosed with severe dental caries during a dental checkup. The examination found that as many as 15 teeth had been damaged at once.
A had been working late for long periods and often pulled all-nighters. She also had a habit of drinking soda instead of water. She reportedly drank at least one bottle of soda a day and often had soda with late-night snacks.
It was also found that late at night, she would often go to bed without brushing her teeth properly, or without brushing at all, because she felt too tired.
Medical staff removed the decayed areas and performed filling treatment using resin. Fortunately, the damage had not reached the pulp in any of the teeth, so root canal treatment was not needed, they explained.
Specialists warned that frequent consumption of soda or other sugary drinks exposes the tooth surface to an acidic environment for long periods, weakening the enamel and greatly increasing the risk of cavities.
They also advised that after eating sweets, people should rinse their mouths with water as soon as possible. After drinking soda, it is better to rinse with water first and wait about 15 minutes before brushing, which can help prevent tooth damage.
