[Sportschosun Kim So-hee] Actor Ahn Jae-wook moved viewers to both tears and laughter as he candidly shared behind-the-scenes stories about his acting award, his deep affection for his family, and an episode from a state dinner.
On the June 15 episode of tvN STORY's "What Are We Saving It For?", the cast shared a variety of stories during a special anniversary meal in Jeju Province.
That day, Ahn looked back on the moment he won the grand prize last year for the KBS2 drama "Please Take Care of the Five Eagle Brothers" and shared a lighthearted behind-the-scenes story. He won the top award jointly with Uhm Ji-won and joked, "Uhm Ji-won was expected to win, so they had already reserved a dinner spot in advance." He added, "It was actually booked for a year-end gathering, and if we won, it was supposed to turn into a celebration party. I just ended up joining them and eating together," drawing laughter with his playful recollection.
He then recalled the moment he received the grand prize for the first time, more than 30 years after his debut, and shared the emotion that followed the joy. He added that his wife was also moved to tears and sincerely congratulated him, adding warmth to the story.
Ahn was especially unable to continue speaking for a moment when he talked about missing his family. He said, "My mother also teared up and said, 'Your father, who passed away three years ago, must have been so happy.' He passed away before he could see this," leaving viewers deeply moved.
He also revealed that he later visited his father's grave and belatedly presented the grand prize trophy to him. "That moment was really overwhelming," he said, leaving a lasting impression.
Ahn also shared an anecdote about being invited to a state dinner at The Blue House. He said, "I was invited as a popular actor in Vietnam," adding, "I had played a chairman in the drama 'Please Take Care of the Five Eagle Brothers.' At the dinner, real conglomerate chairmen from Hyundai Motor Group, LG, and SK Group were seated there. But photos of me sitting seriously, as if I were the real chairman, became a hot topic." His candid story drew laughter.
