[Sportschosun reporter Kim So-hee] Footballer Ki Sung-yueng drew laughs as he personally shared the behind-the-scenes story of his long-remembered remark, "If you're frustrated, why don't you run instead."
On the 15th, the YouTube channel Shoot for Love released a video titled "We asked Ki Sung-yueng directly about 'If you're frustrated, why don't you run instead.' (feat. a witness from the scene at the time)."
That day, while talking about using an embedded SIM (eSIM), Ki Sung-yueng began by saying, "It gets frustrating if it's slow when uploading to SNS..." The cast then naturally brought up the past remark that had become a hot topic, "If you're frustrated, why don't you run instead," and burst into laughter.
Ki Sung-yueng laughed and said, "How long are you going to keep bringing that up?" Shin Gwang-hoon, who was there as a "witness from the scene," then shared the story behind it. He recalled, "I was there when he posted it. I told him it probably wasn't a good idea, but he did it on a computer in the hotel lobby," sending everyone on set into laughter.
Ki Sung-yueng joked about the remark, saying, "Isn't it kind of cute? I wasn't even 20 yet. It wasn't even a burner account. We don't do that kind of thing." He added, "Honestly, wasn't it better than Lee Chun-soo's?" making the atmosphere even more lighthearted.
Shin Gwang-hoon explained, "He was getting criticized so much on Cyworld that it led to that," and added, "At the time, about two or three people tried to stop him." Ki Sung-yueng then mentioned that there was someone who had encouraged him, even naming the person, but that part was censored.
Ki Sung-yueng also recalled the moment the incident was reported as a main SBS News story, saying, "It even came out on the news back then."
Shin Gwang-hoon praised his mentality, saying, "What was impressive was that he won MOM in the next match." Ki Sung-yueng also said he had taken the experience as a chance to grow. He explained, "You were getting a ton of criticism on Cyworld, right? Since I knew I would get criticized, I would always log out of Cyworld when I went into tournaments." He added, "Failure can also be a valuable experience. Through that failure, I learned lessons and gained experience."
Meanwhile, Ki Sung-yueng drew attention in 2007 when he posted "If you're frustrated, why don't you run instead" on his mini homepage after criticism was raised over the South Korea national football team's performance.
