[Sportschosun Jo Min-jung] YouTuber Kwaktube (Kwak Joon-bin) issued a direct explanation after his name unexpectedly surfaced in a cryptocurrency fraud case involving hundreds of billions of won.
On the 17th, Kwaktube posted an English message on his social media account, saying, "I am a YouTuber from Korea and have never even tried coins. He stole my photo."
He then vented his frustration, saying, "I never thought I'd be impersonated in a coin scam. I don't do coins. Why did it have to be a Kwak..."
The incident began with a major hacking attack that recently shook the virtual asset industry. According to industry sources, the token price of the crypto project Humanity Protocol plunged after it came under hacker attack. The damage is believed to amount to hundreds of billions of won.
As the controversy grew, attention turned to the social media account of Humanity Protocol founder Terence Kwok.
During the process, Terence Kwok reportedly changed his profile photo to a picture of Kwaktube's face. The problem was that some overseas investors and crypto-related accounts shared the image without checking it properly, and began mistaking Kwaktube for a person involved in the fraud case. In the end, Kwaktube, who had nothing to do with the incident, found himself unfairly targeted by global investors.
In response, Kwaktube posted explanation messages in both English and Korean to quickly contain the fallout.
Netizens reacted with comments such as, "He's the real victim here," "What a bolt from the blue," "It's even more ironic because his surname is Kwak," and "He doesn't even do coins, yet he was mistaken for a scammer."
Meanwhile, Kwaktube is a YouTuber known for travel content. He has recently remained active, balancing broadcast appearances with YouTube content. Jo Min-jung, mj.cho@sportschosun.com
