A tragedy in Mexico after a win over Czech Republic: Vehicle plows into World Cup supporters

[Sportschosun reporter Jang Jong-ho] A vehicle plowed into a crowd celebrating Mexico's World Cup victory, injuring at least 17 people.

According to foreign media outlets, including Daily Star, a vehicle drove into the crowd late on the night of the 24th local time in Cabo San Lucas, a coastal city in southern Mexico.

At the time, dozens of soccer fans had taken to the streets to celebrate after Mexico defeated Czech Republic.

Witnesses and local media reports said the driver suddenly accelerated as people on the road were cheering around the vehicle.

Video posted on social media showed fans gathering around the vehicle and shaking it. The vehicle then suddenly charged into the crowd.

No deaths have been reported so far, and at least 17 people have been confirmed injured.

Police arrested the driver at the scene shortly after the crash. They are now investigating the exact circumstances of the incident and whether it was intentional, using CCTV footage and witness statements.
