[Sportschosun reporter Jo Ji-young] The comedy film 'The Taste of Prison' (directed by Kim Gu-jeong and produced by Jupiter Film and Cinema Service) has completed its star-studded cast, including Lee Sun-bin, Park Ji-hwan and Bae Hyun-sung, and will begin filming next month.
Lee Sun-bin, who has shown a wide acting range across genres through the films 'Noise' and 'Okay Madam,' as well as the dramas 'To the Moon,' 'Potato Research Institute,' 'Boyhood,' the 'Work Later, Drink Now' series and '38 Task Force,' will play star chef Jessica in 'The Taste of Prison.' In this film, she takes on the role of Jessica, a star chef who has followed only a classic elite culinary path and never hesitates to speak her mind, only to fall into the prison kitchen overnight. Lee is expected to bring a fresh charm to the character with her signature energy and steady acting.
Park Ji-hwan will play Jeong-bae, who brings a gourmet spirit to the bleak prison alongside Jessica. Park, who has left a strong impression in the film 'The Man Who Lives with the King,' 'Handsome Guys,' the 'The Roundup' series, 'Hansan: Rising Dragon,' and the dramas '100 Memories,' 'Good Boy,' 'Nobody Knows' and the 'Gyeongseong Creature' series, transforms in this film into Jeong-bae, the leader of Cell 3, who creates astonishing dishes with unheard-of recipes and mysterious ingredients. As he clashes with the star chef Jessica at every turn in a battle of pride and culinary skill, he is expected to add a lively spark to the film with his trademark playful charm.
Bae Hyun-sung has been cast as Su-hyeon, a new inmate in Cell 3 who emerges as the prison's Gen Z chef with a gentle nature that stirs protective instincts and a natural talent for cooking. Bae, who has shown a fresh appeal through the dramas 'The President's Project,' 'Family by Choice,' 'Gauss Electronics,' 'Our Blues' and the 'Hospital Playlist' series, is expected to portray the awkward yet deeply thoughtful Su-hyeon in his own style.
'The Taste of Prison' also raises expectations as Kim Gu-jeong takes the director's chair. He won the Excellence Award at the Seoul Short Film Festival for 'A Mother's Love Never Ends,' which drew attention for its bold and provocative direction, and received the New Currents Award at BIFF for 'Sham, Hard Romance,' which was praised for its distinctive setting and emotional depth.
'The Taste of Prison' follows a star chef who falls from grace overnight and ends up commuting to the prison kitchen, along with inmates who create soul-stirring dishes using unimaginable recipes and ingredients. Starring Lee Sun-bin, Park Ji-hwan and Bae Hyun-sung, it marks Kim Gu-jeong's feature-length commercial film debut. Filming is set to begin in July.
