변상일 4단은 중국의 장웨이제 9단에게 불계승하며 2년 연속 본선 진출에 성공했고, 강승민 4단도 일본의 시바노 도라마루 2단에게 승리하며 이 대회 3번째 본선 티켓을 거머쥐었다. 정대상 9단은 99년 4회 대회 준우승자인 일본의 조선진 9단에게 백 반집승을 거두며 99년 4회 대회 이후 17년 만에 삼성화재배 본선에 합류했다.
