KIA는 29일 김종국 감독과 계약 해지를 발표했다. 선수단은 감독이 없는 뒤숭숭한 상황이었지만 묵묵히 캠프 출국 준비를 했다.

KIA는 지난 15일 베테랑 내야수 서건창과 연봉 5000만원, 옵션 7000만원 등 총액 1억2000만원에 계약했다.

2014년에는 KBO리그 최초 단일 시즌 200안타를 넘어서는 201안타 대기록을 작성했다. 그해 타율과 득점에도 리그 1위를 기록 정규리그 MVP를 차지하기도 했다.

FA 신청을 두 차례나 미루며 재기를 노렸으나 끝내 성과를 올리지 못했다.
